ADdicted: Never Stop Playing

We all know work is important.

In the best case scenario, your work allows you to be a productive member of society and contribute your time and talents towards making the world a better place. Doctors, teachers, inventors, and engineers are the professions that immediately come to mind for me, but there are certainly many other jobs that would qualify.

At minimum, though, work is what allows you to earn the money you need to pay your mortgage, buy your groceries, and fund your entertainment.

Work is important.

But here's something we sometimes forget: play is important too.

With its latest ad, LEGO wants to encourage you to never stop playing.

And to deliver that message in a fun and creative way worthy of the colourful bricks it sells, LEGO hired actor Tom Holland to play a role.

A few different roles, actually.

The multiple scenarios depicted in this ad and the way it was shot reminded me of Nike's very ambitious "Write the Future" ad from 2010, and that should be a considered high praise indeed: that spot is one of my all-time favourite ads, and I don't even watch sports.

Holland probably wasn't needed for this campaign, which I'd argue would work without the use of a celebrity spokesperson.

But he certainly doesn't hurt it. And if LEGO can use the charming Spiderman actor to get this ad seen more often, and get the "never stop playing" message heard by a wider audience, than I think whatever they paid him is likely money well spent.

Play on!
