Star Wars! Lightsaber fights! Chewbacca!!!
The geek in me loves Coca-Cola's "Refresh Your Galaxy" ad just for the Star Wars tie-in.
The marketer in me appreciates how Coca-Cola can continue to authentically and creatively insert itself into pop culture. Sure, there's no Coca-Cola IN the Star Wars universe... but getting a Coke to go with your movie at the theatre is a longstanding part of the experience for many movie-goers, and that gives Coca-Cola the creative license to play in this space.
The cynic in me realizes that I've NEVER (in over four decades of going to the movies) been served a Coke in a glass bottle when I purchased a beverage at a theatre... and that this was clearly an "ask" to increase the brand's visibility in the ad. But then I tell my inner cynic to shut the heck up and enjoy the ad.
And the Dad in me loves the father-son bonding at the heart of this spot.
Grab a Coke... and a lightsaber? May the fun be with you.
